Are Hawley Retainers As Good As The Invisalign Type?
hello: i had braces for about one year, then my doc decided that its time that they come off, it's been one month free of braces. i am happy with the results. he gave me hawley for the upper jaw and bonded for lower, and he extracted my wisdom teeth because they have no place to erupt therefore ruining my other straight teeth. but i feel that one of my teeth is moving back to it's old position. when i told him that i want another retainer he said no need that i'll only be wearing retainers for another 3 months and them i'm done. Isn't it true that i need to wear them longer? so i went to a different doc and asked him for invisible retainer (like a night guard) i've heard by a lot of people that the hawley is no good and ill have to put braces again. is it true? and finally, i'm afraid the other doc will not be as good as the first and therefore messes up my invisible retainer?

usually when treatment is complete, the orthodontist will give retainer to keep the teeth aligned while the gums get hard, When wearing braces, your teeth and gums are soft. It takes a year after treatment is complete to harden.
That is why it is so important to wear the retainer full time for the first year and then at night only.
The bonded wire helps too, usually left on for a couple of years.
Try and get the Hawley retainer, the orthodontist can make adjustment to correct your problem
Good Luck
