Bleeding Gums

I take really good care of my teeth but within the last 2 and a half weeks my gums have been sore and have been bleeding even when they are not being brushed. I have even tried using a soft brush and that is too hard on my teeth, I have had to start using a toodlers toothbrush. I am a 20 year old female, what could be the cause of it?

Altough you may take good care of your gums and teeth with proper oral hygiene sometimes other things can cause it. In women hormones are a big factor. With them changing monthly they can cause your gums to get inflammed and bleed. Try rinsing with luke warm salt water. Also in females pregnancy can cause your gums to bleed as well. LIke everymonth when a female is pregnant it again causes huge changes in your hormones and body causing gums to become inflammed. It could also be happening if you were recently sick or have started taking any new medications or antibiotics. It changes the flora in your mouth sometimes giving the symptoms of swollen gums that bleed. If it continues to happen your dentist may give you a prescription mouth rinse called chlorhexidine. Your would use this nightly. They may also want to do a full dental exam to eliminate the possibilty of decay or infection that may cause this.
