Can your jaw shift after braces?

Can you jaw shift to an underbite after you get your braces off?

Answer: If you don\'t wear your retainer, your teeth will shift

It is very important after your braces are off, you should wear your retainer full time for a year(escept for eatint). The reason being, for the duration of your orthodontic treatment your teeth were shifting to the correct position. The gums becomes very soft, therefore it takes a year after shifting teeth to harden the gum. That is why some orthodontist will put a cemented retainer on your upper canine to canine teeth a retainer.(behind the teeth), same goes for the bottom. This way you cannot forget to wear the removable retainer nor loose them. Good Luck
