Depressed over my dental situation

Hi! I will start with a brief dental history of mine. I haven't exactly been prone to decay, or at least when you think about my poor dental hygiene as a teenager. However, as soon as I moved away from my childhood home, which was 3 years ago, I started a strict dental hygiene. Took a while but nowadays I brush my teeth 2-3 times a day, floss and use mouthwash daily. I am now 22, female. I went to the dentist before my move in 2015, one cavity was filled and everything else was fine (didn't take x-rays though.) This year the hell broke loose. I was stupid and didn't go to the dentist as soon as I noticed a cavity. My first premoral on the left broke and at the same day I went to ER where they started root canal to TWO of my teeth (both premorals on the left, other has been worked on more). On top of that, the dentist noted that I have more cavities, so I went to another dentist who would take a full X-Ray. the result was 9 cavities (including a broken old filling with a cavity). Now I have the biggest cavities behind the root canals filled now and have temporary fillings for the right upper row. The root canal to the premoral will be continued in a couple of weeks and the broken filling will be repaired and cavity cleaned this Friday. Needless to say, I AM DEVASTATED and I'm already feeling suicidal for the situation. I'm not sure what has caused this all, might be my strong antidepressants I took for over 2 years and following a vegetarian diet at the same time. I'm already mentally prepared for a couple of implants down the road but I am scared to death I will end up having dentures at a very young age. Honestly, the possibility of dentures scares me the most and the thought has made me unable to eat and sleep properly, which is having a major effect on my studies at the moment. I am falling behind. I don't have any pain in my teeth at the moment. But judging by what I have told (I'll provide x-rays if needed), how great would be the possibility that I will end up with dentures in the next 20 years? Please help, the fear is literally ruining my life, studies and relationships. Best regards

Answer: Breathe Deep

By BracesInfo.com Expert 10

First, take a deep breath. It sounds like you more than likely had the start of some small cavities and without taking radiographs, it is impossible to diagnose interproximal decay (decay between the teeth). You are taking the right steps to get back on track and your hygiene regimen sounds impeccable. Do not continue to have negative thoughts about life, due to your oral condition. Life happens, we get busy, and before you know it a year or more has passed. You now have a treatment plan of what needs to be restored and you are in the process of doing so. Once these teeth are restored, you really shouldn't have any reason to look towards dentures. Be sure to cut processed sugars out of your diet and limit your intake of sugary juices and beverages. Always brush before bedtime and schedule your 6 month hygiene visit in advance. Your prescription medications may have altered the pH of your saliva or created a drier environment, creating a more suitable environment for dental caries formation. So be sure to increase your water intake if you feel your mouth is drier than normal.
