Dry socket

I just had my top two wisdom teeth removed Tuesday at 9 am. I have not used a straw, have not eaten anything that can get stuck in the wound. Taken salt water and rinsed. When am I safe from dry socket? I have been getting all kinds of inform.action offline and I am just unsure about when I can no longer get it or when the risks are minimal. Thank you.

By the sounds of it you are doing everything right to avoid dry socket. Some people do follow the instructions and still end up getting it. Chances are if you have not had any issues this far you may be in the clear. Just be sure to keep the area clean with still brushing and flossing. After the wisdom teeth or 3rd molars are extracted the oral surgeon normally places dissolvable or removable stitches. ideally if instructions are followed nothing should get In the extraction sites. they should heal within a week to two weeks. Sometimes it takes a little linger but that is the typical healing time. You may be still a little sore for a hour one month but it shouldn't be painful. I would say its safe to say you avoided dry socket if it has not happended in about 2 weeks. You should be ok. The ones who get dry socket typically notice they get it within a few days after having the dental extractions done. If you notice any change or it is kit healing properly go to the oral surgeon it dentist who did the extractions to have them checked. If you are still concerned you could call and set up a follow up appointment to ease your mind.
