Answer: Make All Your Appointments and Have Good Dental Hygiene

By

When wearing braces an orthodontist will often overestimate treatment period just to be on the safe side.   To ensure your treatment goes as scheduled it is important to make all your scheduled appointments.   This will ensure you get your braces adjusted on a routine basis.   Good hygiene is also important to the progress of your orthodontic treatment.  We recommend using an electric toothbrush and double up on your flossing routine to ensure your teeth and gums stay extremely healthy while wearing braces.   Some orthodontist will actually stop treatment if a patient has really poor hygiene.

Your teeth can only move so fast to remain healthy and the speed at which your teeth move really depends on you.   By being so young you will most likely see quicker results than an adult, however it is important you take your time with braces as you want a stable result with they come off.

Ask anyone who has had braces and they will tell you that you will get used to wearing braces very fast.  The first couple week is the awkward period where you and your friends really notice them, but shortly after you won’t.  Actually once you get them off it will be weird having them off and your teeth will feel slimy.

In summary it is best to talk to your orthodontist if you are worried about treatment time, however know that orthodontic treatment is a process and you won’t want to rush the process to bring your teeth to where they need to be.
