Proper fit of an essix retainer
After debonding, an Essix C+ retainer was fabricated. The retainer had to be \"forced\" (not an exaggeration) onto my teeth. When in my mouth it was very painful. The retainer took about 1 minute to put in the mouth, and about 2 minutes to take out. I have the model of my teeth. The retainer has to be stretched over the mold and forced on the model. My twin had ortho as well from a different orthodontist and his slips right over. What is the correct fitting? What are the potential problems associated with a retainer that fits as the manner described?
Answer: Teeth move very easily when braces are removed

When you get your braces off, the gums and bone are very soft from all the moving of teeth. It takes about 1 year to harden. That is why it is so important to wear the retainer full time for the first year and then you can wear them at night.
It is possible that it is tight to start, if after wearing them for a day and you remove it, it should be ok.
the longer you leave them out, the tighter it will feel. If not, then go back to the orthodontist and tell them you want a new set.
Good Luck
