Wisdom teeth-pain-left-side

I had 2 lower wisdom teeth removed 2 weeks ago today, my healing was a little longer as they were impacted and both were in the bone so they had to cut away a lot of bone to get them out (per my conversation with the dr's office). this past sunday I was feeling great, the pain had subsided and I decided to eat some solid food, I was eating a salad and somehow all of a sudden bit down on what felt like something really hard, it felt like a popping sensation and instant pain. the next morning I went to clean my wound as I have been doing all along and when I pushed on the inside of my mouth a small amount of pus came out until it was just a little blood, I have not had that problem since and I continue to do the salt water rinses. when I chew however even on the right side, I get pain on the left side, I put a hot pack on it and that helps. could that be the muscle that i'm feeling because the chewing makes it puff up just a little bit. I have no symptoms of an infection from what i've read and was just curioius.
