Lower Jaw Surgery: Update Compilation One Surgeon said I have a lot of bone mass, so I should heal quite easily. My anesthesiologist gave me extra pain medication before I woke up, which is why my pain level was so low. I had no pain when I left the hospital on Thursday. While in the hospital, I used a suction device to remove any saliva or blood in the mouth. It's hard to swallow the first few days, as the throat is sore from the stomach-pump tube the staff places through the nose, down the throat. Your throat will be sore for a few days as a result of this. The purpose of the stomach tube is to pump out any blood that has drained into your stomach. This prevents any nausea. My checkup with the surgeon is tomorrow, Thursday July 16 2009. I tore the suture on my right side from jabbing it with the syringe tip, so it's bleeding intermittently now. I am now only drinking on my left side of the mouth. I find it easier to drink with the syringe pointed toward the back of the mouth, rather than have the syringe pointed at the front teeth and letting the liquid get all over the place. This keeps your tongue and inner teeth areas cleaner than if you were to draw in the liquid through the front teeth. At night, I have syringes by my recliner (elevate your head maybe 30-degrees to limit the pressure on the swelled areas) since my throat gets extremely dry. Sometimes if the throat is too dry, it attempts to close up, preventing anymore air from entering your lung. Always keep the throat moistened. I wake up several times ... Views: 18683 |

Jaw Surgery - PreOp 1 This video is not very exciting. I'm mostly making these videos for myself to watch later. Funny Things -The blue mold came out of the bottom of my mouth very easily, but for some reason it didn't want to come out of the top. And yes, after she took it out of my mouth, I drooled. -When I look up at her and laugh, that is because another nurse asked a patient to blow his nose because she couldn't stand looking at the boogers. If you turn up the volume you might be able to hear her. -When I'm getting the actual wire ties, you can hear a little boy whining/crying in the background. He was only getting the basic tightening, but even the mother was making a to-do of it. -Wire ties hurt when they are being put on. If you look carefully, you can see my jaw being pulled to the side she is working on. I don't recommend getting them. Lower Jaw Surgery I had my lower jaw surgery on June 3, 2010. Good thing I had my graduation a month earlier haha. It took about a week and a half to get the swelling to go down. I still can't chew food until July 15th ish, 2010. I dropped about 10 pounds but I'll probably gain it back once I start eating. For those of you getting lower jaw surgery, it's really not that bad. I did not experience any pain whatsoever. Didn't have to use narcotics at all. If anything, I thought it went better than my wisdom teeth getting taken out. I had a tiny underbite going on, and the braces made it even worse once it straightened my teeth. The only bad part about my surgery was that the during the night (I had jaw surgery at noon), I had really low blood pressure so whenever I got up to stand I felt nausea. My mom had fed me milk and this chocolate breakfast shake (which apparently you're not suppose to do that) and I ended up puking on the floor while taking a shit. I felt pretty bad for the nurse.. but it had to be done. I felt so much better after and got to go home the next day. Hope you guys enjoyed this video!
