It is best to leave the tooth in place until you can have a dentist take an intraoral xray and evaluate the remaining root(s).  Since the tooth had a root canal, it should not hurt or give you any issues unless it gets re-infected.  Be sure to keep the area very clean in order to avoid debris in the canal or under the remaining tissue.  More than likely, you will not be able to remove the root(s) on your own especially with the crown of the tooth fractured off.  This makes it very hard to grab ahold of even for a dentist with specialized instruments.  It is important to see a dentist in order to discuss replacing the tooth, as other teeth will now begin to shift and your bite will change.  Your second molar is important for not only mastication but also prevents the maxillary (upper) tooth from drifting out of the socket.
