baby teeth eruptions and gums

My granddaughter is alittle over 9mths old and hasnt had any of her teeth come through yet,and isnt showing any signs of teething. Weve also noticed on her bottom front gum, there seems to be an extra layer of gum, like a thin slit. I dont know how else to describe it,but its not smooth like I would think a gum would be. Does this sound like something normal or something we should be concerned about. Also, how early can I take her to the dentist, especially if I have concerns?

Answer: You are feeling the tooth coming thru

the most common first tooth to erupt on a 9 month and older is the lower two front tooth. The gum line may feel somewhat rought or thick and sometimes can be smooth. From what you are saying it sounds like the tooth is starting to come thru.

When the time comes, it is possible that your granddaughter might be crabby, tynenol will work to ease the break thru. Also giving her a toyring that is frozen from the freezer.

I would wait a abit before bringing her to the dentist.

Every child is different as far as when the teeth start to erupt. But it sounds like you are on the right track

Good Luck and enjoy your granddaghter
