Archwire breaking
Hi there, Recently a bracket came off a back tooth, and the orthodontist left the tooth, saying he will reattach it later and it is not important right now. He left the archwire hanging and it has been moving around a lot, and eventually it broke off when I was eating. Is this common practice/does this happen a lot? Also what do I do if something else breaks off and I accidentally swallow it?

Sometimes an archwire will break, but not often. In your situation your bracket has broken off on one of the back teeth. It is possible that the orthdontist left the wire extended and not realizing that it can poke you and or brake off more. Just make sure the archwire is not hurting your tongue to touch nor sticking out of the bracket, it should be flush and not feel anytning. If you happen to shallow a small piece I would suggest that nothing wiill happen BUT mention it to the orthodontist at next appointment and or call the office and notify them what happened. Good luck to a perfect smile for the rest of your life.
