Are orthodontists supposed to press down on your teeth when trying to get lthe wire in?

When I go to the orthodontist for my monthly wire and rubberband change they make it hurt. I am not talking about soreness. My orthodontist makes the process of getting new wires put in hurt. I end of crying on the way home every time. My orthodontist\'s assistants are the ones who change my wire. When they do, they press down really hard on my tooth to get the wire to go in the bracket. I am scared for my life that my tooth will break off from all the pressure. Is this normal? Is there no other way to put in new wires except by trying to force it in with your weight? Sometimes they even grip my neck and head to get the wire to go in. I am not complaing about the soreness you get after your braces are tightened. The process of doing that is what hurts me. The orthodontist is my least facorite place in the world. On the way home i even have thoughts of suicide. Also, after i get my braces \'tightened\' i cannot eat for WEEKS. when i first got my braces it took about 3 months for me to be able to eat solids. Even then i could only chew with the right side of my mouth. Also ive had my braces for about an year now and i have had 5 brackets fall off.
