Bite is off after recent dental work and now I need braces?

I had dental work months ago ( 2 new fillings on one side and 2 old fillings removed on the other side with one replaced with composite and the other a crown) Since then, my bite has felt off( i wasn’t having any issues before). I’ve seen many dentists during this time and everyone checked my bite with papers and said it looked normal. Developed sore jaws and muscles and popping in my neck 2 months ago and then bite felt worse with front teeth hitting and premolars touching uncomfortably. I cannot find a comfortable spot for teeth to rest on and it’s so uncomfortable to chew. I even went to see an orthodontist less than 2 months ago ( didn’t think I needed braces just didn’t know who else to turn to for help)who said he couldn’t help me and referred me to 2 other dentists. I just saw one of the best dentists in the area and he told me my bite was always off but I didn’t know it( and even though my teeth are straight) that the dentist who did the fillings took Away the interferences my teeth had that were balancing things out and it took away my bite. He referred me to an orthodontist for braces Is this a typical occurrence? I am so confused and never thought I would need braces. Everyone has always thought I had braces and dentists always think I have also Is there any way this could mess my bite up even more more?

Answer: Malocclusion

Your dentist may have referred you to an orthodontist for an opinion. If you have already seen an orthodontist, you may wish to share what was discussed with your dentist to avoid additional consultations if you are not feeling comfortable. You may want to seek the opinion of a TMJ (temporomandibular joint) specialist as well. Sometimes a full mouth equilibration (adjustment) can fix the problem and allow your teeth to settle in a comfortable position.  Orthodontists correct malocclusion or a "bad bite", having the teeth straight is a bonus not only for hygienic reasons, but for aesthetics too.  Just because your teeth are straight, doesn't mean your bite is accurate.  It's worth having several opinions and not rushing into any treatment until you have tried the most conservative treatments first.  However, ignoring the problem can often result in more damage to your occlusion and joint.
