Answer: Body Rejected Braces

It is not common for a patient to need full extractions due to their body being incompatible with orthodontic treatment.  If you had healthy teeth and gums prior to beginning orthodontic treatment, you should have been able to identify any reaction to the braces immediately and had them removed before irreversible damage took place. Your orthodontist should have conversed with your general dentist prior to placing you in full orthodontics regarding your oral hygiene and resotrative needs.  Most orthodontists will not place brackets on an un-treated perio patient, or someone with significant bone loss.  I would seek out a second opinion from both an orthodontist as well as a periodontist or oral surgeon. You will need sufficient bone structure and a healthy oral environment in order to be a candidate for dental implant surgery.  Bring your full dental history to both appointments along with your current dental x-rays. This sounds like there are many variables that need to be addressed and reviewed prior to you understanding and making an informed decision. If you are not satisfied with the answers you are getting, schedule a second or third consultation to be sure you are accepting the correct treatment.
