Braces Only On Top Effective?

2 weeks ago i had my braces put on. the doctor recommended i had done the top and bottom to correct my bite but i refused and only wanted upper jaw braces.my teeth are pretty much straight in the bottom but i have potrussion of my 2 front teeth. my question is the braces be as effective to fix my teeth regardless of only having them on top? and if i only had my top wisdom tooth extracted will that create enough room for the braces to push my teeth in and correct my overbite? thanks

Answer: top and bottom are ideal

By

The ideal thing to correct a bite is to have braces placed on the top and bottom. The reason for this is because you need the bottom done as well to wear elastics. Only having the top done is ideal if you want it for cosmetic reason only. The only way to correct a bite is to wear elastics along with the braces. The braces align the teeth to be straight but its the elastics that you place in yourself that will correct your bite. Sometimes they have you wear them from top to bottom or bottom to top.  Its putting pressure on your teeth and forcing your jaw to be in the correct position that they need to be. Having your wisdom teeth removed will not slove the issue you are having with an overbite. Most of the time it has nothing to do with it. If you really do not want braces on the bottom on all teeth an option can be to place them only on your molars in the back if the need them teeth to wear elastics. This is not an ideal thing to do but they could try this to see if it works. The rubber bands you would wear sometimes 24/7 and only remove when you eat and sometimes they may have you wear them just at night time. Discuss the options with your orthodontist.Again top and bottom is the best route to go for better and faster results though!
