How do I take my braces off at home?

Hello, I've had my braces on for almost 5 years now and in the beginning I was amazed at how great they looked. But for some reason the orthodontist I go to refuses to take my braces off even thought my bite is correct and my teeth are straight and inline. They said my bite is perfect on the left but the canine on the right isn't in place, but is exactly in the same place as the left one I don't know if they just don't notice that it's not as sharp as the left one and that's why there's a little space. My dentist said my teeth are fine and my friends father who is also a dentist said that my braces should of been off by now because to fix everything else wrong with my teeth involves them off. My mom refuses to listen to anyone else but the orthodontist she said that the dentist don't know what they're talking about, so I decided since she has payed off my braces about 3 years ago and that I'm going to school soon why not take them off myself since she refuses to listen to anyone else but an orthodontist who doesn't know anything. Any tips on how to safely take off braces?
