Mandatory To Get Braces?
My 10 yr old son has 2 permanent teeth (upper) that he was been advised to have extracted to make room for 2 eye teeth to come in(small mouth). No Orthodontist will remove the teeth unless we agree to buy braces for $5K. We are told the perm teeth need to come out to make room for the eye teeth. Why are we told one procedure can not be done w/o the other (braces)? What if you can not afford to get braces? Thank you.

I would go and get another opinion possibly two opinions. I do not agree that they want to pull two front permanent teeth to make room for the canine to erupt. However, I do believe that your son needs orthodontic work to be done. There a few things out there that can be done as far as making room for his permanent teeth to erupt. I know of one kind of retainer that is called "expander" It is a retainer that can be removable or glued onto the molar which we call it a permanent retainer( we remove it when the treatment is complete) It will be located on the upper teeth and have a mechanism in the middle in which you will have a special key and have to turn it everyday and the upper palate will get expaneded to make room for adult teeth. Like I said I would get another opinion and usually all orthodontic work is done on a monthly payment schedule. So they can make it affordable for you. Good Luck
