My 8 year has peg teeth and no permanents growing

My dentist told me my 8 year old daughter has a growth chart he has never seen before and he has been in practice for 40 years. I took her in because her right lateral incisor fell out 6 months ago and is growing in very slowly. You have only been able to see the tip of the permanent tooth growing in for about 3 months. Xrays showed that her permanent teeth that needs to grow in are extremely pegged and the growth structure is "weird". He also said that there are no permanent teeth shown behind some of her remaining baby teeth. He also shows a cysts of some sort in her gums. I am very concerned. Is this a serious problem? Can it be fixed? My dentist did provide me with a copy of the xrays I would be more than happy to share. Please answer.

Answer: pegged teeth

By

Although it is not very common this has been seen numerous times before as far as the pegged teeth or cone shaped teeth. Also it is common more then not to have missing permanent teeth. What i would suggest is to get a second opinion from an oral surgeon regarding the cyst. They will be able to remove it with no problem and can test it to make sure nothing else is going on. It could have formed in result of a permanent tooth not fully developing forming a cyst. It is a simple procedure to have it removed. Now as far as the pegged teeth and the missing teeth. I would recommend seeing an orthodontist. Sometimes they will recommend moving other teeth in the position of those teeth with braces. If they do not they may create the space and keep it there and recommend when older to have dental implants placed. This wouldn't be until she is about 17,18. After the orthodontist moves everything into place and take the braces off they can refer you back to the general dentist to do what are called buildups. This is where they can bond the white composite tooth colored filling on the tooth making it look like a normal size tooth.
