My teeth appear slanted after braces.

Dr. Thompson- I got my braces off about a month ago and have been wearing my retainer as prescribed- 22hrs a day, 7 days a week. However, I noticed that my teeth are weirdly slanted after the treatment. The top slant up from right to left and the bottom slant down in the same direction, too. My teeth weren\'t aligned like thisbefore I got my braces, and I did notice it during my treatment, but I thought I would go away once I got my braces off. Is this a result of bad orthodontics? Or is it genetic and due to the shape of my teeth? I would include pictures but I can\'t seem to find a way. Thanks, Ana

Answer: slanted teeth

I can understand your frustration Ana and pictures would be great, however the site does not offer a place to upload as of now. It is hard to say if it is the shape of your teeth or an uneven cant. If it is simply the shape of your teeth due to wear or genetic factors, many general and cosmetic dentists can perform an enameloplasty, or simply the re-contouring of your teeth. This is a very simple procedure performed with finishing and polishing discs which is minimally invasive and does not require anesthetic or down time. If your smile or occlusal plane is canted, this is something that needs to be corrected by the orthodontist. It would be best for you to make an appointment with the orthodontist and discuss your concern with he/she. From there you two can collectively decide the treatment options. This is most likely not a result of the retainer and it will not correct itself on its own.
