Periodontal Scaling Procedure involves what?

I believed I was having my teeth cleaned to be charged for Perio Scaling and rt planing per quadrant-this fee was 245.00 per 1/4 of my mouth. I would like to know what is done so great and helpful that this needed to be done. What justifies charges like this?

Answer: Deep Cleaning Below the Gumline

By

This is common when you have periodontal disease. Almost 1 out of 3 adult have periodontal disease. In order to find out if you have periodontal disease is when you go to the dentist and have your teeth cleaned, as we are cleaning the teeth along the gumline sometimes the cleaning can go below the gumling as the plaque is pushing down. Once the plaque is removed, there is a special intrusment that has measuring line so when it is use on the gumline we can determine how deep the pocket is. Anything more than 2-3mm depth into gumline, we note it and keep an eye on that tooth. We show which one they are so you can keep up the maintenance. When you have more than several teeth that are 3mm or more depth, we recommend to have a deep cleaning. What we do is do a 1/4 or half a mouth at a time. You are frozen thru out and we then proceed to clean below the gumline to remove all plaque on every tooth. It is very important that you take care of them at home also. Most time when having the deep cleaning it can firm up the gum and prevent it from getting worse. Sometimes we may trim the gumline a little to make it easier for you to clean. Remember we cannot repair gum but we can fix teeth. So Its important to do this.

I usually recommend that most adult with periodontal disease to do this once and if you maintain your teeth and gum You will be good.

This procedure usually takes an hour of the dentist or hygienist time per quandrant. You have to have novacaine for this procedure. That is why the cost is high but worth it to save all your teeth and not wear dentures.
