Root canals
My dentist told me that I need two root canals done and a few fillings done before I can start Orthodontics. Is this true or can I get started with treatment and get those things done along the way? I am really wanting to get my teeth straighter but don't have the money for all of the dental treatment at once but I would like to get it started at least.

It is ideal to have all your restorative treatment prior to having brackets and bands placed on your teeth. Interproximal cavities cannot be restored once brackets and wires are placed. A root canal can be done, however it is standard of care to have a crown placed on a root canal tooth, which will not be accomplished once brackets are placed. If you do not restore the teeth prior to your braces being placed, the cavities will continue to get larger and may not be able to be restored once the braces are removed. Your mouth should be healthy and cavitiy free prior to any orthodontic treatment.
