Tooth and Gum question

Hey 10yrold daughter has a new k9 tooth coming in on the bottom row and the old one is still there a has a slight wiggle to it. In front of that in the gum area it looks like it is infected. So I wait until the tooth comes out naturally, do I try to treat the \'infection\' with antibiotics or a home remedy or what?

Answer: permanent tooth and primary

By

It is very common for kids to have their permanent teeth come in while their primary are still in. If she is able to wiggle it have her try to get it out on her own. If it seems to just not want to budge she may need help with it and the dentist will extract it for her. If there is a small pimple like bump on her gums she may have an abscessed tooth. Meaning the tooth is dying because it wants to come out or it just wont come out on its own and now has an infection forming. It will not go away on its own or from anything you try such as a home remedy. The dentist may need to prescribe an rx for her to take to get rid of the infection but will also remove the tooth after she is done the antibiotics. The bump may go away but really the only way to remove the infection is to remove the source of the infection which is the tooth itself. If you leave it there it can cause damage to the the permanent tooth that is trying to erupt. Best bet if it is not out within a month and she does not have pain with it give it until then. After that take her for an xray to see if the root is shrinking or if there is an infection. If the root is not shrinking and there is no sign of infection they may still want to remove it seeing how it will be awhile before it comes out on its own. Some dentist like to wait to have nature takes its course. But again if does not seem to be moving or she starts to have pain go to dentist asap.
