There are so many options for you to obtain that dream smile you want.  Without seeing any radiographs, it is hard to say if surgery is necessary.  However, orthodontics should allow you to achieve the straight smile you desire.  With the help of rubber bands, many times an overbite/overjet can be corrected.  Once the teeth are in the correct position, there are several options for whitening.  In-office whitening gives a more instant result, however sensitivity is usually an issue.  Custom trays can be fabricated to allow you to whiten at home for several weeks obtaining the same great results in a longer period of time.  There are also porcelain veneers and lumineers that allow you to change the shape and the color of your teeth permanently so keeping up with the whitening will never become an issue.  It may be possible for you to have the teeth removed while still in treatment and have the treatment altered so that you are happy with the end result.  You have already invested time and money over the last year, having the braces removed prematurely and to be unhappy with your results does not seem like the best option.  Schedule a visit to discuss your expectations moving forward with your orthodontist.  If you both agree that moving forward you can achieve the results you desire, I think that is your best option.
