What Are X-Rays For When Wearing Braces?
ive had my braces for about nine months and my orthodontist asked me for a copy of x-rays from my dentist and i forgot to bring them in during my last appointment at the orthodontist and so they told me to bring it next time but they still tightened my braces..so that means my teeth will be different than the x-ray the next time i come in..will that affect anything? do they tighten my braces based on the x-rays? what is the purpose of the x-rays?

When a orthodontist request x rays from you, it usually means that they want to check out all your teeth and make sure there are no dental caries and also to make sure your roots of your teeth are good and moving the correct way. The xrays will have no bearing for your normal monthly orthodonitc treatment. The orthodontist may sometime do bends on the wire to make sure that the tooth and root are going into the correct alignment. Sometimes they will remove a bracket and place a new bracket in the correct position so your teeth and root can move accordingly. That is the reason sometimes during your treatment, they will ask for a copy of the latest xrays. Good Luck
