Answer: Usually 6 to 8 weeks for orthodontic adjustment

When you first got your braces on, the wire were put in to start and straighten the teeth. The wire does all the moving of teeth, and the braces are just an anchor to hold the wire in place. It is normal that your teeth will feel loose as we will now know that your teeth are moving. You start off with a weak wire and move yourself up within time. When at the orthodontist, he/she may not change your wire at every appointment, but may adjust them(putting bends onto wire), it does NOT mean that they are doing nothing. We CANNOT move your teeth too fast as it will cause root absorption( shortening of your root on your teeth). The reason your teeth feel loose is cause by the braces moving the teeth and making your gum tissues soft(which makes it easier to move teeth). Once braces are removed IT IS IMPORTANT that you wear your retainers to hold everything in place as it takes a good year for your gum tissues to firm up again. The average time we usually see a patient for the adjustment can range from 6 to 8 weeks between appointment. Good Luck to having the perfect smile for the rest of your life.
