When I have my rubberbands in my teeth's postion doesn't feel right

I have to wear rubber bands on my braces. I mean the l kind that go from the top front of your teeth to the back bottom part of your teeth. Whenever I wear them my teeth just meet at the front and the back and sides don't touch...I don't think that this is right so I will have them touch in the back and sides this makes it feel Luke the rubberbands can't work because my jaw is keeping my teeth like this, and then after a little while my jaw starts to hurt and I think it is because of how I am holding my teeth. So my question is when the rubberbands are in how should my teeth be postioned...hope this makes sense and thanks!

Answer: Rubberbands make your teeth shift so your bite will be off for awhile

By

This is very common that when you start your rubberbands your bite will be off for a bit, But everyday your teeth are moving into the correct position. The purpose of the rubberbands is to correct your bite alignment. From your comment, it sound like you have a class1 bite where your teeth do not match up so they are making you wear the rubberbands to make your teeth a class11 bite. It will take time and your teeth are always moving.  You are suppose to wear them fulltime and if you can eat with them on, leave them on. Everytime you miss alot of time, your teeth will shift back and it takes twice as long to stabilze the position.  If you feel unsure, call the orthodontist and explain your concern, they should explain to you exactly what they are trying to do. Also ask them where the teeth have to go so you can watch for yourself if everything is working.  Good Luck
