Will my teeth

A saw a post on Facebook by a dentist saying, "This what happens to your teeth when you think you can go on for 6 months without visiting your Orthodontist fully knowing you have a monthly adjustments. When this happens remember its your fault. #youbeenwarned." Is it really possible that this would happen? If so, what is the explanation behind this? Hoping for some enlightenment.

Answer: Loose tooth

You cannot believe everything that you see on the internet, especially without knowing the circumstances or condition of the patients mouth prior to when the braces were placed.  It appears in the picture, that the tooth does not have any bone supporting it.  The patient may have advanced periodontal disease or the tooth may have been knocked out in an accident.  No one knows, except the patient and the treating dentist.  There are too many unknown factors to speculate on the cause. Can a tooth fall out due to bone loss? Absolutely, however if a healthy tooth will fall out after six months with what appears visually to be good oral hygiene, that is undetermined, but not impossible. Anyone that is being treated by an orthodontist should be compliant with their treatment, or discontinue it.  It is a waste of not only your time, but the orthodontist as well if you are not going to comply with treatment recommendations.
