Crowns on top teeth only
I have wearing down on my teeth, especially the top ones. The dentist says I'm a tooth grinder, and I do now wear an appliance at night to prevent that. A local dentist said I could crown all of the top and bottom teeth. I went to an orthodontist for a second opinion. He said the bottom teeth are in better shape, and I could have the the top teeth crowned but not the bottom. The latter advice is half the cost, so it's what I am considering. Will it work to crown the top teeth and not the bottom? (I do not want my name used online)

The orthodontist is correct as far as doing your top teeth only. He/she must of felt that your bottom teeth are good,
You will still have to wear the niteguard with all the crowns on. As you mentioned that you are a tooth grinder. By having the crowns on the teeth will not stop you from grinding. You are doing this for aesthectic look.
Because of the fee, do one thing at a time. get your top teeth done and then later down the road see if you want to continue and do the bottom because of aesthetic look.
