It is possible that the crack you see in the temporary is worse and quite possibly a piece has broken off and is causing a gum irritation or infection. Until you are able to see your dentist, keep the area as clean as possible and try to rinse with warm salt water 2-3 times a day. If there is a tissue abrasion, the salt water will help keep it clean while healing. Hopefully the tooth isn't cracked. Many times, if this were the case, you would experience some discomfort when chewing or placing pressure on the tooth. It is also a good idea to stay away from anything hard such as raw nuts and granola or high fiber meats that may cause further irritation and trauma to the area until your dentist examines you and identifies the problem.
