Unused crown for bridge

I am starting to think I need a tooth extracted after a root canal did not help the pain. It is tooth #20 with a temp crown on it, and since I have tried to chew on that tooth again, like before I had RTC done there is a lot of pain but more so after I release pressure on it. I have pain to touch gum below the tooth as well. The gums look a little red and puffy but nothing outrageous, prior to getting the RTC done I had sweet sensitivity in the tooth and eventually the filling came off the tooth and once the filling was replaced was when the intense pain started which led to getting RTC done, the pain never fully went away after RTC just dulled, hurt more again after getting temp crown, then dulled and since I started to try to chew on that side again greatly increased. I have since paid in full for the perm crown but I am starting to think root of tooth is cracked which needs to be extracted. But I have heard that the crown that wasn't placed on yet could possibly be used toward getting a bridge made? Is that possible? Just don't want to be out the money I spent on the crown and then have to put out even more for a bridge.
