How long does it take for adult tooth to come in after extraction ?
My son is 12 and had a first tooth removed by his dentist. The dentist said it needed to be removed because it was stopping the permanent tooth from coming in. This was an eye tooth and the permanent tooth has not come in yet and the gum has heeled over. The first tooth was extracted 8 months ago and I think I should be seeing some sign of the permanent tooth by now. How long does it take for a permanent tooth to come in after the first tooth is extracted?

Every person is different. As you mentioned that your son had the baby tooth removed 8 months ago. The dentist should have a xray from that time, and you should take another now(8 months later) and see where the tooth is now. If some reason, the tooth is still protruding down, sometimes it may require braces on the teeth, with a space open for the teeth to erupt properly. You can only tell with a new xray. Also with the braces on, there are times where we have to expose the tooth and put on a brace and pull it down. Good Luck
