I just had a filling and I'm still having IMMENSE pain.

I just got my tooth filled in today. My tooth had a couple cavities on it. It's a top tooth on the left side close to the front. It was throbbing and caused all of the teeh around it to be in great pain. The pain is so severe I can't eat food or drink warm liquids. It hurt the left side of my jaw all the way up to my ear. At first, cold water made the pain vanish for a couple of minutes, (it was the ONLY thing that helped, ibuprofen and hydrocodone did nothing) but then it didn't, and that was the day I went to the dentist. They drilled and filled and then I left. I didn't know the pain was still there because my face was so numb. Now that it's wore off, several hours later, the pain is still as acute as it was yesterday. I can't even drink water without getting sharp pains. It is constantly throbbing. Ibuprophen and hydrocodone didn't even ease the pain slightly and nothing is helping at all. A couple other details that could be useful: I just started smoking cigarettes a couple of weeks ago, I have a bad cold (cough, runny nose, fever.)
