Stinging pain in tooth

One of my teeth has a very sharp stinging pain. It is very hard to eat and I can not bite down without that tooth stinging. Is an extraction needed?

It is very hard to diagnose an extraction without a dental radiograph.  Usually when a tooth has pain on biting, it's an indication that the tooth is elevated from the socket.  This can be a result of an infection that may or may not be reversible.  Sometimes it can also result from the placement of a new dental restoration or shifting of your teeth, which can be caused by several factors.  It is best to get into a dentist for a radiograph as soon as possible, in order to diagnose and properly restore function for you.  You also do not want an undetected infection to spread to surrounding teeth or continue to worsen. The sooner the problem is diagnosed and treated the better for not only your smile, but your health as well.  Hopefully the tooth is restorable.
