Pain After Endo

6mo. ago had endo done on botton last tooth, which was quite sensitive to cold, hot and tapping with instrament. After endo had a temp. 6 weeks no sensitivity to hot or cold or press. Had gold crown soon afterwards was very sensitive to pressure, and brushing with electric brush. They reduced the occlusion it did help . Now it is becoming sensitive to heat, now again with pressure, little with cold. If there was a hidden canal would'nt it have been sensitive to cold and hot during the time I had the temp? If they have to do another endo would that ruin the crown? Should I have to pay for another endo? And possibly another crown? There is now some off/on slight lingering pain. Thank You

Sometimes there is an additional canal that is not located unless the root canal is performed with an operating microscope.  Some molars can have four or more canals and all teeth are different.  It is possible that the tissue in this canal was not infected when the root canal was performed, or after majority of the tissue was removed your body in combination with antibiotics and/or pain medication, calmed the tooth.  Sometimes just the trauma of working on a tooth, it can become aggravated.  This can be something as simple as removing the temporary crown and placing the permanent crown.   If the gold crown has been permanently cemented, they would need to drill an access hole on the occlusal (top) surface of the crown to reopen the tooth and perform a retreat.  This access hole can then be filled with a composite or amalgam filling.  You do not need to replace the crown.  I would return to the  same dentist that performed the root canal and have them retreat it, it shouldn't be an additional cost if it was a missed canal.  Usually they are concerned about you and your comfort, as well as remaining a valued patient.
