Periodontium is the tissues(gum) that invest or help t invest and support the teeth, including the 1-periodontal ligament 2-gingivae, 3-cementum, 4-alveolar and 5-supporting bones. The word gingivae means the gums, the word cementum means the connective tissues covering the root of a tooth, the word alvelor means the root of the teeth are held by fibers of periodontal ligaments such as mention above. Supporting bone means the hard layer that is covered by the gum. Overall the word is described as all the gum tissues taht surrounds the tooth.
