There are some general dentist that perform root canals as well as the other procedures they do daily. Some do mot like to do them because they take a lot of time to do or they feel an endodontist would do a better job at it. Some would rather just not do them at all. They may send you to an endodontist to have the root canal completed because they are specially trained in just doing root canals. That is the only things they do in their practice all day long. They take extra courses and have additional schooling to help them only be specialized in root canals. That is why its a specialty office you are going to. They do charge more because they see less patients a day spending more time one each paitent. to complete a root canal on one tooth it can be a few hours unlike a filing that can take 30 mins to complete. They also may charge more because of being a specialty office. You pay for what you get. They are highly trained and have the schooling behind them. If you go to any specialist in any field chances are the rates will be more then someone who doesn't have a specialty behind them
