Worried about possible dry socket after extraction

Hi there, I just had a tooth pulled today(2nd from the back, bottom left), and i am somewhat worried that a dry socket will form. I've kept the gauze on the extracion site all day, eaten/drank with it in place, and i have this terrible habit of creating suction (or negative pressure) every time i swallow. I'm salavating quite alot, and the natural reflex is to swallow, wich worries me. Right after i got home from the dentist, there was dark red blood almost all the way up to the top of the gumline, but now (fter all that swallowing), i can see the hole(the socket), theres some dark red around the sides, but i can see white stuff in the bottom, wich i'm assuming is the bone. Do you think i will have a dry socket? I have severe dental anxiety, and dont much like the idea of going back, and getting shots, or having the dentist Jam medicated gauze in there. Can u set my mind at ease? :)

Answer: Dry Socket

Swallowing alone will not cause a dry socket, otherwise everyone would get them. If you want to be super cautious, you can let the saliva run out of your mouth into a cup, without using much force. Stay away from carbonated beverages, drinking straws, and smoking. There is no guarantee that you will not get one, even when you do everything correctly. If/when a dry socket occurs, you will know immediately and there is nothing over the counter you can use to take the pain away. Trust me, your dentist will be the best person ever for placing dry socket paste in the socket.
