Answer: Lumineers

By BracesInfo.com Expert 10

Dental Lumineers are considered a cosmetic procedure. A thin layer of porcelain is fabricated by a dental lab to cover the facial (front) of anterior teeth, similar to a porcelain veneer. They are fabricated to the desired shade and shape the patient requests. Your dentist will evaluate your dental condition and determine if you are a candidate. Usually, minimal tooth reduction is required. Once the lumineers are received, you will have a delivery appointment in which they are tried in, teeth are prepared, and the restorations are cemented with a resin based cement. Due to the adhesive nature of this cement, it is not possible to remove the restorations easily once placed. More than likely they would need to be cut off with a high speed dental handpiece and then polished, removing small amount of dental enamel and tooth structure. In some cases, when teeth need to be prepared, even if the Lumineers are removed, the teeth will need to be restored where preparations were made. It is best to be sure you want the restorations prior to investing your time and money. Removal of the restorations can create unnecessary trauma to the tooth and can be costly and time consuming.
