I had perodontal surgery between #22 and # 23 20 years ago. It is now infected.The doctor told me he can do the surgery again in the same spot. Readings are 9. Can syrgery be done on the same spot? Thank you

The answer to your question is Yes the dentist can do surgery on the same spot again. Especially it was done 20 years ago. When the dentist told you it was a nine, it means that the reading on the periodontal instrument was 9mm. Therefore,he/she can go down 9mm into the gum tissues between those two teeth. When you had the surgery 20 years ago, your measurement was probably over 6mm and they got it down to 3-4mm. As we get older our gums start to receede and sometimes we get deep pocket. I believe that sometime in your adult life you need a good deep cleaning to prevent any periodontal disease. I would suggest that you do the sugery to prevent loosing those two teeth. Make sure you always keep that are clean by using a proxi brush to get deep inside to remove any debris. Floss daily and you should be good. Good Luck
