Is it safe for my 4 yr old to under go dental surgery?
my 4 yr old just came from the dentist office and he has referred us to a specialist, because he said it would be better for her to have iv sedation to have all work done as she has a lot of work to be done. she has cavities, and one of her back teeths my need to be pulled out. and she is missing her 4 front top teeth but he says they are fine due to her new teeth will be coming out soon, but the specialist may want to pull them out as well. I AM JUST TERRIFIED THAT MY 4 YEAR OLD WILL HAVE TO BE PUT UNDER MY IV SEDATION IS IT SAFE FOR HER TO UNDER GO ALL THIS. I'M SCARED SHE WONT WAKE UP OR SOMETHING CAN GO WRONG WHILE UNDER?? PLEASE HELP!!! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH

Answer: It is safe to put her under sedation

Today, it is safe for her to go under sedation. From what you are saying, she has a lot of work to be done. It will be traumatic for her to go through this work and it would be better to get it all done at once.
This happened to my younger boy about 15 yrs ago. Needed alot of work and I put him under sedation for the work, BUT when time for cleaning and flouride it was good.
She is too young to understand anything about cavities, etc. BUT from then on, you can help her and explain that once this is done and the new teeth come in, there will be no more new ones, so she has to take care of them
Good Luck
