Orthodontist wants to file my teeth.

Hello, I got my braces about 9 months ago and the doctor has noticed that one of my front teeth has a chip in it. He asked me if I had a dentist that's going to fix it for me, but I'm only 19 and unfortunately I don't have any insurance at all, so no. He then told me that what he's going to do is lower the tooth will a chip a milimeter or so, and then file it down so it matches my other front tooth. This concerns me a bit because I know that your teeth kind of have a memory, so my Mom and I are afraid that if he files it down, when my braces come off, wouldn't it receed back to where it was in the first place, and end up being shorter than the other?..

Answer: it is ok to file a tooth down to match the other one

By

It is ok to file a tooth down about 1mm to match the other tooth. Sometimes it can be fix with a dentist BUT it may break easy as it sound like a small chip. The answer to your question as far as will your tooth go back to where it was. The answer is no AS LONG AS YOU wear the retainer full time for the first year after your braces are off. When removing the braces, your gums are soft from all the moving that is why you must wear the retainer for the first year full time so your bone can get hard again

Good Luck
