What Are The Risks Of An Untreated Crossbite?

what are the risks when a 10yr old child has a crosbite and does not treated like one that gets the palate expander? My daugter is bieng told that her lower jaw is growing. What should i expect if the expander is put in vs. not doing so?

I know you are having some questions about your 10 year old child now starting orthodontic treatment at that age. There is no set age of when a person should start orthodontic treatment. Everybody mouths are different. From what you are saying is that your child has a crossbite now and they want to put in a expander in to help correct the bite. My suggestion is that you do it so your child will have a easier time when all the other permanent teeth start to erupt. Also it will help as far as speaking, eating, and of course smile when the teeth are coming in somewhat straight. This does not mean that your child will not need braces also, most probably will need them also as the orthodontist will have to line up all the permanent teeth correctly. Put the expander in now while the teeth are easy to move at this age. Your child will thank you later in life for a perfect smile. Good Luck
